Two More Arrests in XL Bully Dog Attack Case
The investigation into the tragic death of a nine-month-old baby in a dog attack in Rogiet, Monmouthshire, has led to two further arrests. This brings the total number of arrests to four, with a man in his 30s and a woman in her 60s from Chepstow being held on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. The initial arrests were made on November 7th, targeting a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, suspected of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog.
The victim, Jonte William Bluck, suffered a compressive head injury consistent with a dog bite, as confirmed during the inquest opening. This incident has sparked widespread concern, especially given the recent ban on XL Bully dogs, which came into effect on February 1, 2024. However, the number of dog attacks has risen in 2024 compared to the previous year, with 31,920 recorded incidents in England and Wales, a 2% increase from 2023.
The police have urged the public not to speculate, emphasizing that online commentary can interfere with the ongoing investigation. Assistant Chief Constable Vicki Townsend expressed sympathy for those affected by the tragedy, highlighting the importance of allowing the investigation to proceed without undue influence.
