Aadhaar Verification Made Digital: No More Physical Copies Required
New Delhi: The government has launched a revolutionary Aadhaar app, eliminating the hassle of submitting physical Aadhaar cards for verification or visiting Aadhaar centers for personal detail updates. This digital solution allows users to manage and verify their identities from the comfort of their mobile devices. Aadhaar details will be securely stored, removing the need to carry a physical card for verification purposes. Address and mobile number changes can now be made swiftly, subject to the Unique Identification Authority of India's (UIDAI) confirmation.
One of the app's standout features is the ability to monitor authentication history. Users can keep track of the places where their Aadhaar details have been used for verification, ensuring enhanced oversight and control over their digital identity. This level of transparency is a significant step towards a more secure and user-friendly Aadhaar system.
At the unveiling event, S Krishnan, the electronics and IT secretary, emphasized the government's commitment to privacy. He stated that the app is designed with data minimization in mind, addressing past concerns about Aadhaar data leaks. Krishnan explained that these leaks were primarily caused by excessive data collection by third parties, not due to breaches in the central database. By minimizing data collection, the app aims to reduce vulnerabilities and enhance user privacy.
The Aadhaar app offers a convenient solution for managing multiple Aadhaar profiles. Users can manage up to five profiles on a single device linked to the same phone number. This feature ensures that users can selectively share personal information, keeping only the necessary details private. Additionally, the app provides a QR code identity scan feature, allowing users to quickly and securely confirm their identity at authorized terminals.
