Ottawa Senators' woes hit a boiling point after a tough loss, and the fallout is more than just a game; it's a statement. After a recent overtime defeat, Jake Sanderson, usually reserved, delivered a candid assessment of the team's goaltending. This unexpected commentary has sent ripples through the hockey world.
Sanderson's post-game comments were direct: "I think Leevi (Merilainen) made some good saves, but, at the end of the day, you’ve got to make more than 10 saves to win the game." This bluntness, especially from a player known for his measured approach, highlights the frustration within the team.
The game itself, a home loss to Montreal, exposed deeper issues. Sanderson's rare public criticism of the goaltending, coupled with the team's struggles, paints a grim picture. The team's defensive issues were further compounded by the fact that Merilainen faced only a handful of shots.

The good news is that Linus Ullmark is expected to travel with the team on their upcoming road trip. His return could provide the Senators with a much-needed boost.
Once Ullmark returns, Merilainen is expected to be sent to Belleville to regain his form. James Reimer is likely to make his Senators debut on Sunday afternoon.
Coach Green acknowledged the frustration of losing games despite outplaying the opposition. "I give our team a lot of credit. They are battling. They are playing good hockey. Our goalies have not been at their best, and we know that. Our team is still bringing it.”
With a new goalie potentially making his debut, the team will need to maintain its fight and resilience.
