Filip Forsberg is on fire! His scoring streak powered the Nashville Predators to a hard-fought victory against the New York Rangers, with a final score of 2-1 at Bridgestone Arena. This win marks another step forward for Nashville, who are showing signs of a strong comeback.
Forsberg's impressive performance extended his point streak to eight consecutive games. During this streak, he's been a force to be reckoned with, racking up a total of 11 points, including seven goals and four assists. His impact on the ice is undeniable, as he continues to be a key player for the Predators.
"We have to be aware of where everyone is with their team, but at the same time, there is no reason that we shouldn’t be more desperate than them based on everything that is going on here," Forsberg stated, highlighting the team's mindset. He emphasized the importance of capitalizing on every opportunity, showcasing the team's determination.
Justus Annunen, the Predators' goaltender, played a crucial role, making 16 saves to secure the win. The team's recent form is noteworthy, with a record of 7-3-0 in December. Ryan O'Reilly also contributed significantly, providing two assists. O'Reilly shared his enthusiasm, saying, "We’re crawling back into this thing. It’s a lot more fun. Everyone is contributing. It’s exciting. It’s fun coming to the rink."
On the Rangers' side, Jonathan Quick made an impressive 30 saves. However, the team fell short. Mika Zibanejad acknowledged the team's struggles, saying, "I thought the first half of the first period was OK. But after that it was just not good enough."
Forsberg's goal, a wrist shot from the right circle, put the Predators in the lead during the second period, assisted by O'Reilly. O'Reilly himself is on a seven-game point streak, with nine points total.
"I think breakouts are better, I think wall play is better," Forsberg noted, pointing out improvements in the team's strategy. "I think breakouts are cleaner from our [defensemen], it’s better execution by our forwards as well. I think that’s helping, for sure."
Steven Stamkos added an empty-net goal, further solidifying the Predators' lead. Coach Andrew Brunette praised the team's approach, saying, "I know we’re not the fastest skating team, but we’ve been playing fast. We’re putting pucks in areas that we trust, and it’s kind of building that trust that’s allowed us to get in those situations."
Jonny Brodzinski scored for the Rangers, but it wasn't enough to change the outcome. Coach Mike Sullivan expressed his disappointment, saying, "It’s disappointing because we had a couple of really high-character wins the last couple of games, and these guys have worked extremely hard."
But here's where it gets controversial... The absence of key players like Rangers captain J.T. Miller, due to an injury, and forwards Gabe Perreault and Matt Rempe, due to illness, undoubtedly impacted the Rangers' performance.
