And this is the part most people miss: The Department of Health and Human Services justified the freeze by claiming it had ‘reason to believe’ these states were providing benefits to undocumented immigrants. This decision comes after a high-profile case where a Minnesota nonprofit, Feeding Our Future, was accused of stealing $250 million meant for feeding children during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison has vowed to fight this freeze in court, calling it unjustified.
In a letter to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Rollins suggested the state could regain access to the funds by providing detailed justifications for past spending.
